I thought I was doing my due diligence in the technology department. All I could do was apologize for not protecting her better. There were many tears, half of them from me. She actually wanted me to take away her phone, the portal to this hurt. She felt like it had actually happened to her in real life. The virtual world is so real to our kids. She shared a lot about how she was feeling as a result of this experience that made me want to weep and weep.
She opened up, and told me about the things that appear in apps. Unfortunately, it was my kid who filled me in … I suddenly found myself looking into the tearful eyes of one of my babies who was telling me that, not only was this kid playing Minecraft when she saw this, but she was also propositioned in this “creative mode” room by another player … This child was crushed. Take a minute to Google “Minecraft + sex mod.” I’ll wait … not only did my brain explode, but my heart did as well. And let's not forget the stardust in the sky in The Lion King, in which many clearly see the word “sex” spelled out.On 21 October 2016 a parenting blog published an editorial penned by a guilt-ridden mother about her purported discovery of “sex mods” for the massively popular Minecraft sandbox video game: The multimedia company has been arguably slipping in sex-based imagery for years now, starting with their 1989 film The Little Mermaid, which (depending on who you talk to) featured male genitalia imagery on the cover of its VHS as well as within the marriage scene of the film itself. When adult imagery sneaks its way into animated children's content, one can't help but be reminded of the originators of such behavior, Disney. The network, which likely received numerous phone calls for its inappropriate content, has subsequently pulled the now-controversial episode (which you can view here). While Oggy appears clueless to the “nip slip” pic, child viewers proved to be far more conscious to the cats surroundings, pointing out the subtle, yet very obvious, framed photo. In the episode, the title character, Oggy, an overweight blue cat named after Iggy Pop, enters his kitchen where in clear view (seen for about 1-2 seconds), hangs a photo of a topless women with very large, prominent breasts.
We're not all that sure how well the show goes over with adults, though, especially after TMZ's report of their sneaky move, throwing in a pair of boobs. Oggy and the Cockroaches is a fan favorite among its child viewers.
